ON THE BENCH

A customer of mine recently came to me with a half dozen or so pieces of rotted wood and an old photograph of a soffit bracket. These are extremely attractive architectural details found on traditional homes that fit on the underside of the roof overhang, but sadly rot and often get thrown away.

I remade this one from laminated pine, and free handed all the curves and scroll work on the bandsaw. These things all tend to be slightly different, a function of the various craftspersons that make them and as only one was needed I didn't bother making templates. A small but satisfying project.
